For my full review: http://ibeeeg.blogspot.com/2009/04/fi... ahhh...another book finished in the Outlander Series. The Fiery Cross is book 5 and yet it is fresh. Yes, I feel as if I am reading about familiar "friends" but the reading is fresh. Claire and Jaime's story continues to draw me in. Seriously, just the other day- work was so incredible hectic that at my lunch break I gobbled my food down in 15mins...this meant I went all day (16 hours) without reading. I realized, upon falling alseep, I did not get my Claire and Jaime fix. Yep, I love reading their story...even If I only read 15 mins...it is enough to have me thinking of them and the time they are living in. The time...D. Gabaldon never ceases to amaze with her writing- she does a great job of giving me (the reader) almost all the senses of living during an age I am unfamiliar. She weaves the senses of sight, smell, touch and taste effortlessly into the story. Details of sickness...simple illness of the cold is woven into the story...simple, yet it gave me a huge feeling that these characters are real. The other example is with a woman's "courses" (the word Jamie uses)...a woman's time of the month - her period. The author gives a snippet of how women have to deal with this monthly "friend". I found this to be intriguing...why? I am forever in awe of how women managed before the conveniences I am accustomed to where made available. There are many more details that the author weaves into the story that I find very satisfying to giving me the senses...in bringing Claire, Jamie, Brianna and Roger to life.
