A cute enough conceit--mashing noir with the popular historical detective fiction genre (itself a mash-up of sorts). It mostly works. Our narrator is extremely hard-edged and charming (think Sam Spade in a doublet). The story moves quickly along and hte historical notes ring true. I gather that this is the first book in a series... not sure I'll read #2.
