A nice quick read.
3 million copies were sold, and it has been a book club special. So, I blasted through it. "Mack" has 5 children and a wife. His youngest girl is abducted and killed. They never find the body or the bad guy. He is in the deep for about 4 years. Then, he gets a note from God to come to the shack in Oregon where the authorities knew the girl was killed. He goes, and then the remaining 60% + of the book is his encounter with the Father (God, here an African woman he calls papa), the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (a lady). It gets quite sermonish/preacherish. But it is intriguing. If the reader is in a down part of his/her life wondering why God was doing all this to him/her, and/or is in a searching-for-my-spiritual beliefs, this offers great clues. I was not in that mood when I read it, so while I felt it was a good sermon, as a reader of fiction looking for some entertainment I didn't find it here.
