This book is great. It kept me reading all night. only when I wasnt able to keep my eyes open any longer did I put it down.
[Review written after the second time I read this:] All right, Miller gets to keep his four stars. But they're for Mazzuchelli as much as for him. Batman: Year One remains the Frank Miller comic I like best; he captures the beginning of Batman really well, and Mazzuchelli's art leaves you with a lot of images that stay in your mind. There's no way around this one if you're interested in Batman at all, and while it features some of Frank Miller less likeable trademarks (oh, the women!) they're not as bad as in others. [Review written after the first time I read this: "While I love the ideas behind this one, and the artwork was good, I'm not much of a Frank Miller fan. I love the desperation and the darkness and the unfairness of the world that shines through here, and altogether I liked this one much better than The Dark Knight Returns, but there was something missing. At least Batman himself was more likeable here than in The Dark Knight Returns."]
