This book has been compared to Henry James, which is probably why I couldn't stomach it.
I liked the first part of this book better than the second part. I cared less about their rise to fame and was more interested in their childhoods and relationship before they were discovered. I especially enjoyed descriptions of the Chelsea hotel.
When I was maybe sixteen, I considered this one of the books that changed my life. But when I went back to it year or so ago, I found it very dry and halting, and hard to get into. So sad! This is maybe why you should never reread those super-important formative books. Or maybe why you absolutely have to? Sheesh, I don't know.
