Interestingly enough, Graveyard Book could be considered a retelling of Jungle Book, substituting ghosts for wolves, vampires/werewolves for bears/panthers, and Jack for Sher Khan. I had a hard time deciding if I "liked this book" (3 stars) or "really liked this book" (4 stars). It was fun to read, but the story didn't stick with me as well as other Gaiman stories, and there were many unanswered questions. However, I understand that the answers to those questions are outside of Bod's POV and therefore outside the scope of the book. However, after reading Jungle Book (on Gaiman's suggestion in the Graveyard Book acknowledgments), I bumped it up from "liked" to "really liked" because I see the parallels, which are pretty neat. I do wish the illustrations were better placed against the text in the Kindle version, though. It was a bit confusing; some of the illustrations looked like they were supposed to be spreads, but instead of being on a single Kindle page, they were split in half or something. I'd have to pick up the hardcover to see if my guess was right or not, though.
