Well...I enjoyed this book, not nearly as much as As I Lay Dying though (or Absalom Absalom). Faulkner yet again uses interesting and experimental literary techniques, especially his use of different and distinct narrators, and creates another story of the sad, degenerate, and dissolving Southern aristocracy. I sort of wanted to give it three stars, but I couldn't do that to William.

This book is organized into twelve sections, with each section covering an aspect or type of writing. The author is obviously well-read and she includes a number of good passages from other authors to support or help illustrate certain points, so overall it was a pleasant read, but I think it lacked detail enough to support the claim of the title. The exercises were fairly simple (e.g., Start to write a short-short. Fifteen minutes.), and there weren't enough of them to justify spending a month on each section. Still though, this would be a very gentle introduction to writing for someone who isn't exactly sure where to start, and the author provides a very detailed bibliography for further information/inspiration.

I love this series (though I prefer the spelling Necropolis that the original novella used). The stories are entertaining and the world is very unique and interesting. The easter eggs were a pleasant surprise. I'm not often a fan of books that repeat basic information given about the characters in previous books so frequently, but I tend to look the other way for this series because I enjoy it so much. It's something fairly unique in a world saturated with vampires, werewolves, zombies, and other creatures that go bump in the night. My only real problem with this book was the poor editing. It's riddled with typos, especially the extra little case in the back of the book. Even the bit on the back of the cover is wrong. Mild spoiler. (view spoiler)
