Stardoc is a really great start to a series. Mostly when I read the first book of a series, I feel as if so much time is built telling you about the world, who all the people are, how are they significant to the story, why it is they can do the things they do, and why there is an alien with pink colored tentacles hanging from its face. But Stardoc literally takes off running. S.L. Viehl explains things as she goes and you're never left behind wondering or scratching your head. Stardoc follows a young female doctor named Cherijo Grey Veil. She's an amazing surgeon and wants to expand her horizons by leaving Earth and traveling to other planets to practice medicine. She ends up having to run away from home since she has an extremely domineering father. She meets up with an alien named Dhreen who is like a space taxi of sorts and takes her to a planet called Kevarzangia Two. There we follow Cherijo as she tries to fit in, as she has never really practiced surgery on alien species, since her father believes that humans (or Terrans as they are called) are the superior race. On K-Two, she has to stop a literal plague that is killing all the aliens and humans alike before K-Two is destroyed, whether by the plague or the Terran government destroying the planet. The story was really good and very engaging and had me out buying the second book the moment I read the last page.
