I was cat sitting. I think it was the summer after I graduated from college when I was living at home. I looked at the cat owners' bookshelves as I'm wont to do when I'm in your home, especially if you're not home, in which case I'll look long and hard at your book collection. And I spied Maus on the shelf. I said to myself, what is that? I pulled it off the shelf, perched on the arm of a wing chair, and read the whole thing straight through. I then fed the cat (I hope) and walked to the bookstore where I bought myself a copy. For some reason I didn't buy volume 2 at the same time. But I got it soon after.
