While my husband "couldn't relate to any of the characters" I found the book a contemporary examination of a family. I liked the way he introduced characters and from time to time went back to where Walter and Patty came from, how they related to their families and how they lived their own lives all with mistakes an joys. I thought it was a good "indelible and deeply moving portrait of our time".
