I liked this book and many others in the series because they tell about real life accounts from a child's perspective. As you read, you really get a sense of what the time period was like and how the people acted because of it. It would be great to use in a classroom to discuss the effects of WW2 and Pearl Harbor's attack. It also makes us consider different perspectives at a time when so many people were prejudiced against Japanese Americans. As Amber befriends Kame- a Japanese American girl, we begin to understand how wrong and hateful people can be when the United States is threatened.
