I like this book because it gets into the head of this main character and you see how damn crazy performers are. It's freaking hilarious! I compare this book to a Mozart opera. You're laughing along at the stupidity of some, then at the idiocy of others. They portray things that if you were living them would not be funny and you laugh until you're like - oh! Giovanni has really destroyed some women or, the countess is forgiving that loser of a count - why? And then you see humanity. You're no longer laughing. You may feel guilty for having laughed or you simply see how frail humanity is and how we need laughter to cope with awful situations. There's one particular moment in this book that just stops time and you see this image of humanity: the reality of it and it's frailty.
