Not usually my genre and a little too long for me. I am not sure if the main character was supposed to be a sympathetic one or not. Her story is definitely a sad one but I did not find myself feeling sympathetic toward her which may speak to a lack of strong character development. Iles makes a valiant effort toward connecting the two plots but the end was a little flat. I would try one of his other titles though.
Your typical Holocaust survival story (no offense!).
