It took me a while to get into this rather unique YA novel (I guess you call this steampunk - a genre I have little experience with) but it grew on me and by the end I was feverishly reading only to finish and have that mix of satisfaction and frustration that comes from the end of the first book in a series. I think part of the problem is getting into the stories style and perspective. The contrast between Incarceron and the Outside is obviously a big part of the story but it also takes some time getting used to the contrast as the narrative switches back and forth between Finn and Claudia and getting a grasp on the backstory that Fisher only slowly reveals. But it really is an imaginative and unique story with a great setting and lots of intrigue and advneture. I look forward to diving into the next book.
