I reread this every so often and I end up identifying with a different sister each time. Although parts of it I skim through because of the preachiness, I still find it absorbing and comforting. Every girl should read this book, since it speaks to women's lives so well. I still think I'm looking for my Professor Bhaer.
This is a very quick read. I love her writing style. You have to take it with a grain of salt (all the talk about "magic"). At times, you feel sad that Beck doesn't realize that the "magic" is actually God watching over her with his angels. A great pro-life book from an unexpected source. It really makes you think about the way that people with disabilities are treated (and why you don't see many of them anymore). It changed the way that I will treat the next person that I meet with Down's syndrome - and his/her parents. Without spoiling it, I will share one profound thought from the book. A racehorse's purpose in life is to run. What is the purpose of the life of a human being?
