jed and i are reading this to each other, switching each time there's a break in the narrative. we are both completely enthralled after having read the first five chapters. it's hard to not read it when jed's not around. i love the way lethem is letting the story come out, he doesn't give anything away until it's completely necessary, and i can't wait to see how this develops, as we're not even a quarter of the way through and i can tell that a whole lot more is going to happen.
** spoiler alert ** I had been hoping for more suspense but overall I liked this book. There was a lot going on with this one - sometimes too much as you didnt quite get enough from all the characters. I have hidden the review for spoilers as some may think this is (i dont really this is there from the beginning - but just in case...) It had a little too much 'his Dad was like that so he is too - there is no hope' I would prefer to explore characters that beat that way of thinking as I hate seeing it used as an excuse. That is just my personal opinion though - it doesnt take away from the story just something that nagged while I was reading. I do love books set in those small towns though, I dont know that I would want to live in one but I do love reading about and picturing them.
