Bought this book when I was visiting Calcutta this past winter. She is my current favourite Indian comtemporary author. This book is about the communist (Naxalite) movement in West Bengal in the 60s and 70s against bonded land labor, corrupt feudal and government officials. It is also about how the movement went awry, with brilliant students joining the movement only to be engulfed in violence against the common people; thereby losing sight of the real enemy. Wonderful writer and story-teller!

I used to read this to my sister almost nightly.
