I'm a huge fan of John Green, and this is one of the best of his I've ever read. It deals with much heavier issues than many of his other books, it seems; and it deals with them with power and sensitivity. Looking for Alaska is also a lot more "literary" than his other books...many of the main themes and ideas were connected in powerful ways. Overall, the best John Green I've read so far. (Warning: There was a bit more teen sex in it than was necessary, but it wasn't so much that I was too distracted.)
I thought this was rather underwhelming. Some of the stories were good, but her prose was boring and obvious, with only the occasional surprise. It might be the hype, though, that made me want this book to change my life, but really it's just OK.
