This was a good read- I enjoyed it muhc more than Omnivore's Dilemma although to some extent it covers similar territory. It is more entertaining because Buford works in various kitchens, such as Mario Batali's (where he spends too many pages I think), and so we see the insides of restaurant kitchens. But then he goes to Tuscany and it becomes a bit of a fairy tale.
I am worn out by Eve Duncan's search for her missing 7-year-old daughter, Bonnie. This depressing, unrelenting plot thread makes me feel like I'm in a dark swamp that I can't escape from.
