I think this is the best Mercy Thompson book yet. Mercy is now dealing with PTSD from her kidnapping and rape by the sociopathic Tim whom she killed in the last book despite his giving her almost a fatal dose of a fairy potion. Marsilia, the Mistress of the local vampire seethe, has learned Mercy killed Andre, the vampire who had made a demon vampire. Marsilia tortures and starves Stephan, a vampire friend of Mercy's, and then teleports him into Mercy's living room. When he fails to kill Mercy due to the intervention of the local werewolves, Marsilia has a vampiric interdiction painted on the door of Mercy's garage. Since this places Mercy's friends at risk, Mercy decides to go help another friend in Spokane since this should keep her out of trouble. Of course, trouble starts there as well. Seems like Coyote, the Trickster God, takes a personal interest in this little skin walker coyote.
Loved this! Great bedtime story. (Yeah, I'm a grown-up who still needs a bedtime story. What of it?) Very droll and sweet. A witty and fun "fractured fairy tale."
