I can understand why some people don't like this book, or DH Lawrence in general - this book set expectations early on that it might be a nice, turn of the century love story. I had to think about this book for a long time after reading it before I truly realized the sheer genius of it, even if it wasn't one of my favorites. However, Lawrence is able to penetrate and reveal the deepest parts of ourselves; more specifically, the parts of the personality that are revealed when one is in love. It may not be a satisfying read, and it took some effort to get all the way through, but in retrospect it was worth the read. Having read this, no doubt I'll pick up my other Lawrence novels and read them as well.
