"Love: a single word, a wispy thing, a word no bigger or longer than an edge. That's what it is: an edge; a razor. It draws up through the center of your life, cutting everything in two. Before and after. The rest of the world falls away on either side. Before and after--and during, a moment no bigger or longer than an edge." Could you imagine a world without love? A world in which a hug was a punishable crime? Where Romeo and Juliet isn't an amazing love story but a cautionary tale of what love, the disease, delirium, can do to you? I thought this book was a well written story that left no questions unanswered until the final page. This was a novel that I did not want to put down. I've been told that this is book one of a three book series and I can honestly say I can not wait to read the next book. This was the first time I have ever read a book by Lauren Oliver and I am anxious to read more written by her. Do I see this book as a teachable text? Yes and no. I feel that you can teach any novel if you really wanted to. This story could be used to showcase literary elements. I could also imagine writing assignments that could stem from this book but at the same time it was such an enjoyable read why do what English teachers are known for, killing the text? Often times we over teach a novel and students can't enjoy it. This is definitely a novel that I will keep in my classroom library and suggest for my students to read for pure entertainment.
