I usually am not a fan of PURE scifi (i.e. with no underlying message), but this was a truly entertaining read.
I wasn't excited about reading this book at all, but it turned out that I appreciated it for something completely different than what others had told me. The biblical parts and time period didn't interest me, but it was shocking to me how much the way it depicted women reminded me of how women lived and were seen in Senegal while I was there in 2002. I thought it was amazing how I had so much trouble describing the way polygamy worked in current day, so it ended up that the best description I could find of it is in The Red Tent, a book that takes places thousands of years ago. Fascinating.
