We all know what happens when you break up with a boyfriend, but what happens when you break up with your best friend? This book gets to the heart of the matter and holy crap, is it intense. As someone who has been dumped by a close friend in the past, I could not put this book down. Liz Pryor's writing is fluid and straight-forward and she uses her own breakup as the background for the book. She writes about the grief, shame, anger, hurt and confusion that can surround the ending of a beloved friendship, especially if the ending happens out of the blue and with no explanation. There are lots of heart-breaking stories from women about their own breakups and how they dealt with the trauma. Because it is traumatic. We all have that one friend who drifted away inexplicably, or perhaps we were the ones who initiated a split. This book is an amazing read without being overly sentimental or mushy and the many stories reveal different ways of dealing with the pain.
Meh. Nothing stellar. There's a page for each letter, and each page has a teddy bear with a different name (as in, "A is for Adele, apple, and ant. B is for Bruno, bear, and baby..."). The photos on each page are ok, and the rhyming isn't too bad. My 17 month-old lost interest around G or H.
