This was surprisingly moving for a small YA text. Matthews' female characters are remarkably well-written and well-developed. It's a bittersweet, painful narrative, but also a hopeful one.
I had a bit of trouble understanding parts of certain sections, which automatically condemns my mind, but it was intriguing, nonetheless. Especially interesting to me were the passages concerning fundamentalists and dispensationalism, and the negative effects that eschatological view had upon evangelical thought life. For the most part, I found this book absorbing and thought-provoking.
