I really liked this back when I read it in college. Yea, it's a romance and sometimes cheesily melodramatic but it's a great story. Excellent beach read.
This book is too hard. One has to work on perhaps more levels of emotional identification alternating with skepticism simultaneously than in any book I can think of, and the rewards are not what they should be. I think it's mean to be a light novel. In any case it's a sort of calisthenics of the imagination (in the full Jamesian sense of the word) that's probably healthy if you're not getting enough of that in other readings.
