Erik Larson did a fantastic job blending two stories: the remarkable building of The Chicago World's Fair in 1893 and the rise of the serial killer, Herman Mudgett. I found the World's Fair storyline to be a bit dry at times, but fascinating overall. It supported the true crime side of the story quite well. The chaos of the fair (and his penchant for making up stories to elude authorities) gave Mudgett plenty of anonymity to do his work. Excellent book.
