I must say, it was awesome! Gave the series a break and got back into it, and this book is fabs!!

This book was like watching a middle-aged white man perform a 50 Cent song at karaoke. He is so far out of his element that you can't even laugh, and instead you find yourself pondering the mortality of your own sense of cool.

I finally read the sci-fi classic! While I enjoyed it, I have to admit that I wasn't blown away. My favorite aspect was the Bene Gesserit, the secret society of women who go through intense training to develop all sorts of awesome mental and physical powers. I enjoyed learning about the desert planet Arrakis and the native Fremen tribes who continue to surprise foreigners. I wasn't a fan of all the war and violence in the book. (I feel silly writing that sentence, as if I'm some naive wimp who can't handle fictional war, but I just felt it was overdone. Even the hero was ruthless and bloodthirsty by the end, in spite of his mother's best efforts). Also, there were a ton of characters to keep track of, which became a distraction (e.g. flipping back 100 pages to figure out who somebody is). I could never tell apart Gurney Halleck and Duncan Idaho (except for the baliset), which reminded me of the interchangeable Merry and Pippin in Lord of the Rings. Finally, the end seemed anticlimactic (and the last page was a complete non-sequitur). Anyway, I enjoyed the book, but will not be continuing the series (I've heard it goes downhill fast).

I really enjoyed the prose in this book. He writes beautfully.

Another fun one by Mayle. Why don't I read more purely fun mysteries? I should; I enjoyed this one.
