It didn't really feel like a separate book as it continued pretty seamlessly from the other two. I like the depth of characterisation of not just the main characters but many of the others like Dimitri (looking forward to his own book soon) and Illium and learning more about the rest of the seven. However even though the main thrust of the book was involved with Raphael's ambiguous relationship with his mother and the threat she might present, I was much more caught up with Elena's troubled family. There are so many threads that have been woven into this, plenty of fodder for further books. Yum.
