*Aug 2011* - Fascinating read of how Alzheimer's slowly takes over the brain and how frustrating it is for the victim to know there are things they don't know. It made me wonder when I should worry that my own forgetfulness could be attributed to something more than being a crazy, busy, tired, working mom. I liked the story of the family and how they adapted to the Alzheimer's diagnosis as well. UPDATED: I re-read this book in Dec 2014 to prepare for the movie release. I think I originally gave this book four stars, but have now upped my review to five stars as this book stayed with me. The character of Alice is so well written that I could not forget her or her disease. It was interesting reading it a second time as, after the first time, I was sure my frequent episodes of forgetfulness indicated my own early onset Alzheimer's, but now I see that the author does say that typically those things are attributed to lack of sleep, busyness, etc. My one complaint is that I wish I had more insight into the husband's mindset. This was a big complaint of mine, but I read in an author interview that she did that because of perspective with which she told the story.
