I chose this for book club. Let's just say the green character in this book does NOT compare to the Shmeigel from LOTR.
Well done, fast-paced, and with a good cast of characters. I actually came to this book from reading and loving Nightbirds On Nantucket years earlier, so I was already acquainted with the odious Miss Slighcarp. Great young adult book! May 1st, 2011: Re-read this book to bleach my brain from the horrible Mary Sue I'd just digested. Still an excellent book. Found myself going over it as if preparing to read it to my children (now that I'm a mom,) and am enthusiastic about learning new things with them (e.g. what "goffering" means.)
