This book confuses me, because I've read it once before and remember liking it. This time I wasn't quite as sold. Kaysen writes a poignant sentence here and there, but her writing was bland overall, and her tone defensive and irritating, like fingernails on a chalk board. The movie is much better and Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar" better still.
