Who says people won't read a collection of screenplays? They will when the writer is the Shakespeare of film comedy. Like the Coens? Read Sturges. Like Billy Wilder? Read Sturges? Like Wes Anderson? READ STURGES!
I actually only gave this book two stars because I was ashamed of how much I loved it, given that it appears on the GoodReads "50 Most Unpopular" list. I'm sorry, I know it's pathetic and cheesy, but it's so adorable. I love the idea that everyone has their own way of looking at Jane Austen based on who they are and the life they've lived, that she's kind of a blank canvas (like Shakespeare) onto which you can project anything you want. Also, I love the "How to Make an American Quilt" aspect of it, where you have a group of women of all ages sitting around a room sharing their life experiences. It will probably get me kicked out of the Smart Kids Club but I don't care. I totally love this book.
A suprisingly eloquent, lyrical story of his life....
