Despite the adult situations in the book, it reads like something for voyeuristic tweens. Altogether very similar to the TV series (almost dead-on like the Dexter books) with the mood of the show replaced by pretty threadbare writing. A little fun but kind of disappointing. Also: not to happy about the mention that Maya's hair is "rough" just because she's African-American. Girl straightens her hair and the author's obviously been touching up on the wrong heads if she's ever even felt natural or straightened black hair.
