Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a classic novel. I just experienced listening to the audiobook read by Kenneth Branaugh who did a superb job in narrating it. The book tells about a man going into the jungle in colonial Africa and his meeting men who had been changed, virtually driven mad by the humidity, the heat, the bugs...and the treatment of the natives there...
