The story was a bit slowly evolving but became promising at the end. What makes this book interesting is the view it gives on the Japan's community. Nevertheless this book is definitely not for everyone. If someone wishes to start their adventure with Murakami I strongly recommend some of his other works such as "Elephant vanishes" for instance because you might end up putting 1Q84 back on the shelf after reading around 100 pages not being able to overcome the sheer boredom this book unfortunately can bring. All in all though reading the first part made me want to buy the second one as quickly as possible. So if you do enjoy reading Murakami you probably won't be disappointed.
