I finally got around to reading this after having it on my shelf for at least 10 years and avoiding the movie for that entire time. I'm totally glad I waited. It was a wonderful book, very well-written and captivating. The problems that plague the family in the book do seem a bit over the top at times, but coming from a a person who had a perfectly normal childhood, perhaps I just don't know what it's like to have a terrible childhood. It's interesting to read about anyway. The only problem I can say I had with the book is that knowing that Barbra Streisand is the shrink caused me to picture her in my mind and that I could have done without. The mind's eye is always more creative. I suppose now I will have to see the movie, but I won't get my hopes up too high.

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame is the classic book by Victor Hugo about the bell-ringer, Quasimodo (the hunchback), Claude Frollo, the priest, and the gypsy, Esmerelda. The story takes place in Medieval Paris. The Notre-Dame Cathedral is an important part of this story. This is a classic story of unrequited love, deceit, and ends in tragedy. I recommend the book to those who enjoy reading french literature, the books of Victor Hugo, and those curious to delve into reading the classics.
