Charlaine Harris delivers a great story in this first book to her series. Sookie Stackhouse is a telepathic waitress who's life is about to change forever when she meets her first vampire, Bill Compton. Thrown into a world of mystic beings, magic, and more (including violence) Sookie finds her own strenth and will. This book is a good start to the series, but the editor didn't do the greatest job proof reading the novel before letting it be published. Some of the novel reads a bit choppy as if written by a high schooler, instead of being as smooth. However, one could argue that Sookie is fairly uneducated and thus the novel reads like the character. Otherwise, it is an easy and interesting read.
This is the kind of book I would have loved to read as a teenager. Don't get me wrong - I loved it fine as an adult, but reading that ten years ago? Would have done me a world of good. It's the beginning of the new Teen Titans, with Robin, Superboy, Wondergirl and Kid Flash. It has an ok plot, but the overall theme is each of them trying to find a place in the world, an identity that is their own, somewhere to fit in. Which is why I would have loved to read it as a teenager, but also why I loved to read it yesterday.
