This book hit me like an axe splitting open a skull all the way down to the scrapple--I don't know what a scrapple is, but I don't know what a lot of the words in this book mean, mostly because they refer to things that no longer exist or are in current use. McCarthy obviously did his share of research for this book, and it achieves an incredible verisimilitude. He conjures up a very real 19th century landscape, and then does a literary 180 and covers the ground with an almost surreal amount of bloodshed. All in all it's exactly like a Harry Potter book, if Voldemort had sodomized Harry, and Harry had gone on a rampage and scalped his entire class.
