A very good book.

This book took me an eternity (relative to other reads) for me to finish. I feel as though it was one of those books that I would read during commercials for a television show or in the bath and never really saw it as a page turner. [Shock] But isn't this a New York Times bestseller, Lindsay? Why yes, it is. But it isn't because it's a page turner. In fact, each of the 109 chapters could have stood alone as an excellent short story and I didn't find any good way to transition from chapter to the next. It's a best seller, rather, because of Gilbert's captivating prose and humor with the universal feelings of a woman trying to find out about life. I felt like I was reading someone's blog who looks at life for its rawness--and who gradually sees beauty in herself and in what's around her. It helps that the book was about traveling, which I am kind of obsessed with right now. I would recommend it as a great read, but I wouldn't say it's one that I plan to reread. Translated to say: 4 stars, Gilbert. Thanks for sharing.
