This book is amazing. Bought it on a whim and read it in one sitting. Great to read when you're stoned.

Bartholomew and Moritz have put together a collection of writing by various authors that speaks directly to several current issues today which surround the topic of consumerism. As I read through each essay, I began to discover how deeply consumerism has penetrated our society. Consumerism is more than a way of life, but it has become an interpretive lens through which we engage our world. Our culture has become centered around the individual, and about feeling good in the present. Hedonism, the ethical system that evaluates the pursuit of pleasure as the highest good, rules our decisions. As a result, the consumerist mindset manifests itself in every area of our life--from birth to death. I especially appreciated Gordon Wenham's essay entitled "Life and Death and the Consumerist Ethic." Consumerism truly is the spirit of the age. Coming to terms with this is at least part of the battle (for me) in finding an alternative lens through which to interpret life.
