Another book from high school, and we were all required to memorize and recite the entire "All the world's a stage" soliloquy in front of the entire class. I should probably read it again, because I had senioritis when I was reading this for class, but I have to say I liked it. As with most of his plays, it has many universal truths.

I want to punch Bella in the nose! She is SO dramatic through most of it, and her total denial of Edward's true love towards the end drove me nuts. I find Bella weak and overdramatic, her relationship with Edward a bit emotionally abusive, and I wish Bella had other interestes in life than blindly following Edward around.... sigh. But I still enjoyed it, except for the early parts where she was having constant nightmares and was so hysterical over her break up. I like Jacob, but he is too immature for Bella, so I am definitely Team Edward. We'll see if that stays that way in the next book. I enjoyed that parts where she was in Italy and the end, but the first 3/4s just about did me in.

The saddest revenge story ever written? Johnny Marr, an almost anonymous young man in middle America (think Our Town), must find the man who killed his fiancée and make the killer suffer as he has suffered. But there are five possible killers, so they must all suffer. The plots that Johnny executes against them require near-omniscience on his part. Never mind that Johnny could have identified the actual killer much more easily--for better or for worse, Woolrich demands that you grant him absurdities. Unassuming, observant and clever mix of dream and reality. This is the first Murakami I've read, and I would like to read more. I liked the historical context of Japan's plight during WWII.
