This book was written so well that I really felt as though I was in the room with these people, listening to their stories and standing by as they lived their lives. The characters are truly captivating, so much so that I'll miss them now that I've finished the book. And I'm still sitting here with so many questions. I wish I could call up Ninny Threadgoode and ask her myself "What exactly happened to..." Really it was a beautifully told story that really captivated the spirit of the southern oral story telling tradition. I greatly enjoyed it. The only critique I have is that it offered a rather rosy picture of race relations, homosexual relations, life during the Depression, the power and role of women in society, and many other heavy issues. That being said, I don't think this book was really trying to tackle all of that so much as offer up some fantastic characters and tell a really lovable story.
