** spoiler alert ** In this novel the same four girls are back, and closer than ever. Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily are still trying to figure out who killed Allison and who the mysterious A is. In the beginning of the novel the girls discover that Allison was the one who blinded Jenna, and Toby knew it was her and took the blame for it. Toby would have told the truth, however, Allison has a secret on him and so far Spencer is the only other one that knows what it is. Spencer starts to believe that the person who knows all of the girl's secrets is Toby (A). Spencer also believes that Toby killed Allison because she knew his biggest secret. Hanna, on the other hand, gets dumped by her boyfriend Sean because she wants to have sex and he doesn't. The only secret A holds on Hanna at the moment is that she throws up her lunch. Emily is still struggling with the whole Maya thing and is trying to determind whether or not she is gay. And then there's Aria who recently caught her dad cheating on her mom and fears that if the secret gets out it will tear her family apart. Aria also has a secret, being that she is still seeing her english teacher Ezra Fitz and no one knows. A manages to know all of the girls secrets and even begins demanding things from them in order to keep their secrets safe. I think the author's purpose of writing this novels was the keep the suspense going and to keep readers wanting to read more to find out who A really is. The way the novel is written, readers want to unfold the mystery and discover the truth about who killed Allison. You ask yourself many questions while reading these novels. I think the author also wants to get the point across that lying leads to destruction and you can't run from your mistakes forever.
