Seeing is written as a sequel to Blindness, but in truth, is a completely different beast entirely. Saramago wrote Seeing because of the United States and what has happened here in the past six years. I know he did. I just finished the book about an hour ago. I have it sitting right here at my hand, open to the last page. The last sentence haunts me, even though I can't bring myself to read it over again. For that matter, I don't know that I could bring myself to read this book again. It's such a farce and yet so true. Why O why Saramago, do you play with my heart and my mind, so??
