This was my second reading of Twilight, having first read it last summer. I decided to give it another whirl so it would be fresh in my mind, so I could read the whole series right through. My first time reading it, I enjoyed it a lot more. Twilight is certainly "brain off" fiction. The writing is far from excellent, the metaphors are weak and often repeated, and the plot is. . . well. . . it's ridiculous. But as far as fluffy romantic fiction for teens, it's a decent read. Once. Second helpings show you a lot more of the flaws: weak vocabulary; weaker dialogue; an overabundance of the word "incredulous"; and a heroine who is basically a blank vessel onto which insecure girls can project themselves. Apologies, but selflessness and clumsiness are NOT traits enough to create a character out of. I've also read a little more than half of New Moon previously, and was less than impressed, but we'll see what a second read of that will bring about.
