Having read this book a second time, the plot is still as fresh as it was the first time I read it. I am still as outraged, excited, disgusted, and amused by the adventures therein; truly, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is everything you could want in an adventure book. There are faked deaths, stolen gold, forbidden love, scheming royalty, friends and outlaws, some excellent lies, and of course, a healthy dose of satire. All of this is wrapped up within the world of a young thirteen-year-old boy floating the Mississippi with a runaway slave named Jim, and all conceived of the mind of arguably one of the greatest American writers. However, part of the challenge is simply reading the dialogue and narration in Huckleberry Finn, as everything is written in dialect (written/spelled as it is pronounced). Personally, I think it definitely adds more to the book, and you end up paying more attention to what you are reading anyway. There are even different accents that become apparent as the story continues - southern accents that have been finely tuned to adhere to specific regions. Honestly, I would like to be Huck Finn almost as much as I want to be Peter Pan. Floating the Mississippi and having adventures with a good friend? Sounds almost as good as Neverland, and a lot closer, too. If you're looking for a piece of excellent satire, an adventure, or a great American literary work, you can't go wrong with this book.
