My first Rand novel. Wow- what a load this was to read at 17! The first thing I remember when I picked it up was how many pages there were! Atlas had more; but this was, at the time, the biggest book I'd ever tackled. Rand has a way of weaving her philosophy throughout her novels in an unobtrusive way, which is perfect for someone who has yet to be introduced to it. The story itself is such an inspiration to anyone who's hand a mind of their own and has felt the weight of their surroundings trying to change them (who hasn't?). Simply put, it's a story of the triumph of the mind.
