Moonlight Cove is the sixth book in Sherryl Woods’s Chesapeake Shores series. Readers who have followed the series will be pleased to see Jess, the youngest O’Brien sibling, get her HEA with the patient Will Lincoln. For new readers, this is probably not the book to serve best as an introduction to the prolific Woods. Much of the pleasure of seeing the conclusion of Jess’s story comes from understanding her history as the O’Brien who needs family members to bail her out of mistakes they attribute to her attention deficit disorder. Jess finally comes into her own as she forgives those who have hurt her and learns to trust herself and Will’s love for her. In addition to Jess and Will’s story, this book also sees progress in the relationship of Connie (sister of Trace, who is married to Jess’s oldest sister) and Thomas O’Brien (uncle of Jess) and little progress but frequent mentions of the non-relationship of Susie (cousin of Jess) and Mack (friend of Will and Jess’s brother, not to be confused with Mick, Jess’s father). The relationships are tangled, and I think someone new to the series could easily become lost. For the first half of the book, the pace was painfully slow. It picked up in the second half and ended with a sweet, sigh-worthy concluding scene. I applaud Ms. Woods for giving readers a romance between characters over 40, but I confess to being disappointed that the relationship between Connie and Thomas was not developed more fully. Perhaps we will learn more about them in the next book, Beach Lane (May 31, 2011), which will focus on Susie and Mack.
