This was a beautiful book. I love that the characters themselves weren't tragic, but their backgrounds were: Brett and her true love who died during the war, Jake's injury and inability to ever consummate a relationship with the woman he loves (especially since he's probably the only man in the book she does actually love), Robert's idealism and how crushed it becomes. It's just a great read. Visceral, exciting. It makes me want to go drinking in Paris.
